Modern Baseball

A Beloved Mid-West Emo Band

About Modern Baseball

Modern Baseball (sometimes abbreviated as MoBo) was an American emo band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consisting of Bren Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber, and Ian Farmer. The band formed in 2012 at Drexel University and released their first album, Sports, on Lame-O Records that same year. Their following albums, You're Gonna Miss It All and Holy Ghost, were released on Run For Cover Records in 2014 and 2016 respectively. The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2017.

The band does not have an active website since its hiatus since 2017, but does have an updated Bandcamp site that can be found here.

A Personal Insight

They are my all-time favorite band that I have been listening to for years despite a limited and discountinued discography of three albums. I first discovered this band during the COVID-19 Pandemic from a very short YouTube clip. Curious, I checked the comments and searched for the full song. On the first listen, I couldn't help but put their albums on loop. Modern Baseball served as my "gateway" introduction to the genre, and from there I began to discover more and more alternative bands. It is your typical alternative-emo band, but the lyrics and the beats are just so fun to listen to, especially on a night drive.
